In an effort to help out our customers we are going to start posting a Link of the Week (LotW). It may be a piece of software, an excellent review, new service, or pending legislation that would effect our customers. Most of our customers are small businesses (less than 25 employees) or non profits; so most of our links will be focused on resources that can help them get the most from there technology budgets.
This week we are going to start off with OpenDNS. While this service sounds complicated, basically it allows you to control (and generally filter) what content is available via your network. The service is free and works with many router/firewall devices, IPCop, and UnTangle (both of which we recommend to clients). Not only will it help filter your web service, but it can also improve the speed when browsing. If you have more questions or are interested in utilizing this service in your network check out the OpenDNS website or feel free to contact us to discuss deployment with some professional assistance.
